Post 11 - Proposal Script

Smartphones: A tool for productivity, or a distractions. Why I've chosen this topic is because smartphones have clearly had an influence on our lives, on my life. It wasn't long ago when a mobile phone was only good for phone calls, SMS and Snake, and with how quickly technology has developed. we have seen technological convergence in its most efficient and greatest form. Where a small 4 inch device is more powerful than computers constructed 10 years ago. Also the smartphone has become relatively cheaper than previously so the average person could afford one, this has led to a dramatic increase in the demand for smartphones and now if you look around everyone has one.
I am making a balanced documentary, i will try to avoid bias and my own opinion where i can, and i will use facts.

Smartphones: A tool for productivity, or a distractions.

We have decided to make a mixed documentary as it is versatile and we can include many different techniques, such as interview, observation and narration. Interviews whether vox pops or expert interviews allow us to get different perspectives. The vox pop allows us to get the general publics opinion and the expert interview gives us expert knowledge on the topic of smartphones.

We have decided to go for the 7PM slot on BBC 3, because this is primetime. It also fits with our target audience of 16-34 as that is the major demographic that we are targeting. It's reputed for its youthful material. 7PM meets the start of prime time where networks fight over the ABC1 audience. BBC 3 is known for its interesting documentaries in the weekday evenings and smartphones would be a great addition to its collection of documentaries broadcasted.

For our short smart phone documentary we aim to reach a specific targeted audience.
Our targeted audience will include young adults. Anywhere between the ages of 16 and 25 . both males and female. Our audience will come from social classes such as the working class and middle class, from all over the UK.
We will target young adults. Between the ages of 16-25, focusing on 16-19 year olds who are in some form of education or training.
They will be smartphone users and regular users of social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.
We will not be gender specific during this project, we will try to get males and females involved and both their opinions, it will also be interesting to see what men favour and what women favour when it comes to using their smartphones.
As aforementioned we will target those of the middle classes as they display the majority of the public.
Our audience would be socialites of the new digital age, very out going. Regularly updating their following on their latest adventures and social gatherings.

Post 9 - Reflection

REFLECTION

Although we did get off to a slow start, as a group we feel as if we are quickly catching up with the work pace and getting our ideas clearly thought and planned out with a clear direction of where our documentary is heading. Our research on documentary codes and conventions has gave us a clear understanding of the things we need to be doing to get our documentary to a high standard and what elements we need to consider before starting filming. So far we have discovered lots of information about not only these codes and conventions but about narrative theories and structures, and have researched these different types of narrative to decide which one we will use to make sure our documentary is a success. Bill Nichols'6 theories are very important in the making of documentaries, so knowing these inside out and knowing which one we will use in our documentary is extremely important. Although we are sure to follow conventions of documentaries, we are also looking for some ideas outside of the box to help us show originality and bigger and better ideas to include in our documentary.

Diary Entry

Right now I feel confident about the documentary. We have  decided the documentary will be about either Drugs, Smartphones or Alcohol. Charity has now started to contribute and attend lessons enough so the workload is equal. I feel that our progress has been good, we are up to date. We have used Blogger for the first two posts, and word. We have also used Emaze and Slideshare for post three and four. I feel strong in our knowledge and I know we will get a good grade. We should try to put more detail in or go the extra mile wherever possible.

Our action plan is to follow the guidelines with the next few posts and go on to filming

Post 2 - Course Outline/Briefing

MEDIA COURSEWORK BRIEFING

For our A2 coursework we were told to get into groups of three. We were then given a brief talk on what we’re supposed to complete for our coursework; which was to make a 5-minute extract TV documentary programme, with most of the documentary pre planned and present of a clear plot. As well as this we need to create a radio advert trailer to promote our documentary to our targeted audience, a double page spread magazine listing, mainly focused on the documentary and lastly a blog to record all of our work on.
We have chosen our TV documentary to be on smartphones and social media and how they impact day to day life and

What influence they have on todays generation.

At the start of the project i was in a group of three with Dominic Wilson, and Charity Bridges, but as they left near the start of the course,  i had to complete the remainder of the coursework, so you may find a post completed by them.
